HIPS proactively defends and controls access to a computer to prevent new threats that anti-virus alone cannot. HIPSl prevents computers from sending or receiving hostile threats from unauthorized network traffic or applications. It also prevents authorized applications from being manipulated in order to send or receive threats across the network. The same functionality, if incorrectly configured can deny users the ability to perform their work.
